TURF GRASS OVERVIEWTurf Grass

The Irrigation process begins with a designer accessing the desired site to check water pressure and flow, in order to ensure proper design and installation.  The designer will also take necessary site measurements.  After all data is collected, a complete irrigation system plan and estimate are drawn up and presented.  The design and estimate are yours to keep.  We recommend that you keep the design well after we finish our work, as it will be extremely beneficial for future use, especially if the system needs repairs or adjustments.

As we begin work, we will tap into the house or building service line near the water meter.  This maximizes pressure, which translates into better sprinkler performance.  After we tap into the line, the water passes through a self-draining brass shutoff valve and into a copper line.  Using copper from the service line to the backflow device keeps the potable water safe.  This also provides additional protection from breakage.

In most circumstances we use a double-check valve (DCV) form of backflow device.  A backflow device is required by the city and prevents water that goes into your system from back flowing into the water supply.  Directly following is a master valve which allows the system to be pressurized only while the system is running.  This is extra insurance that leaks will not be a problem.

The piping for the entire system is PVC pipe, which offers better flow characteristics and dependability than other materials, especially in rocky soils.  We also use king drains, which automatically drain your system each time after it runs.  This allows us to leave your system on longer in the fall and turn it on earlier in the spring.  All valves are housed in individual valve boxes for accessibility.  Valves are individually wired with heavy, 14-gauge underground wire.  A number of upgrades are also offered to help ease the use of systems we install, including wireless rain sensors.

The irrigation clock can be mounted either inside or outside of your house, whichever provides the greatest convenience.  Rain sensors are recommended and normally pay for themselves within only one year of use.  After the entire sprinkler system is installed we will teach you how to use your clock, which is extremely easy to operate.

As part of the installation, we will also winterize your system for free the first year, as well as turn it back on the following spring free of charge.  An irrigation maintenance program is available after our initial installation work is complete.  Services include autumn turn-off and spring turn-on, backflow testing, midseason checkups, and water auditing.
